Frequently Asked Questions

If you have never been for a massage before then it can seem a bit weird and perhaps a bit daunting.  If you are feeling unsure then please read through the answers to these common questions - my aim is for you to feel completely comfortable and relaxed at every stage of the process.

  • How long is an appointment?
Your treatment will last for up to one hour. Most often it will run the full hour but this is not always necessary depending on the goal of the treatment.
  • How much does an appointment cost?
    Each appointment is £40
  • How do I book an appointment?
Get in touch with me via the contact form, phone or email. Where possible I try to have a quick phonecall with you to establish what it is that you are hoping for, particularly if this is your first appointment with me. We can then arrange a date and time that is convenient.
  • How do I pay?
You can either bring cash on the day or pay by bank transfer as soon after the appointment as possible.
  • What do I need to wear?
The simplest thing to wear is a pair of running shorts, ideally not too long, so we can work on the quads and hamstrings. For ladies a bra that opens on the back is important to allow access to your back and shoulders. You will have privacy to get changed before and after the treatment and during the treatment you will covered up, only the area I am currently working on will be exposed. It is important that you feel comfortable throughout, so if you have any concerns around this then let me know, there is always a solution!
  • What will happen during an appointment?
Here I will talk you through a typical first appointment, so you know what to expect.... You can park on the drive and I will meet you at the door to show you up to the treatment room. We will have a chat about why you have chosen to come and what your hopes for the treatment are. I will get you to complete a form which includes any relevant medical history, contact details etc... I will talk you through the potential side effects of Sports Massage and get you to sign to agree to the treatment. If you are coming with pain/discomfort/injury, we will talk a bit more in-depth about the pain - its history, how it feels, what makes it better/worse, how it is affecting you etc... This will take up a bit of time in the first appointment but it is really important for me to understand, in order to make the treatment as succesful as possible. I will then let you know what clothing you'll need to be in (depending on the treatment required). I will wait outside the room whilst you get changed. When you are ready, I will come back in and we will begin. This could be straight into the massage or we might begin with some physical tests to assess range of motion, joint stability or how a muscle is firing. How the treatment progresses will depend on what we are trying to achieve. During some techniques you will be passively lying and recieving the treatment, other techniques require your active participation. As stated already, it is really important that you feel comfortable throughout. I will regularly check-in with you to make sure that you are ok with pressure or intensity of a stretch. For the treatment to be effective your nervous system needs to be happy with what is happening, not trying to fight me off! At the end of the treatment I will leave the room again to give you the privacy to get changed back to normal clothes. We can then wrap up with some advice on what you can continue to do yourself at home, and whether we think another appointment is necessary. Finally, you can pay in cash there and then or I will email you with an invoice and my details to pay by bank transfer. It is much appreciated if this can be done as promptly as possible.
  • What happens if I can't make the appointment?
I totally undertsand that life is busy and complicated and occassionally you might not be able to make an appointent. If you are able to let me know with as much notice as possible than we can reschedule the appointment. If you are not well (symptoms of cold/flu/covid) please do not come for your massage. It will not do you any good and I don't want it! Get in touch and we will reshcdule when you are feeling better. I would ask that you bear in mind that last minute cancellations (within 24hours) have an impact on me and my ability to run a business. Please respect this and give as much notice as possible, otherwise I may have to charge you for your missed appointment.
  • Do I need to make 'small-talk' like at the hairdresser's?
No! I will need to communicate with you to ensure your comfort and discuss parts of the treatment but aside from that there is no pressure to chat. Some clients chat the whole hour through, and some like relax in silence. Either way, or anything in between is absolutely fine, its your massage it's up to you.
